Privacy policy

We collect the minimum data needed to run a safe marketplace, we don't sell it, and you stay in control.

What we collect

• Account data — email address, name and, if you add it, a phone number (once accounts launch).
• Advert data — everything you choose to publish in an advert, which is public by design.
• Usage data — standard server logs and privacy-respecting analytics used to keep the site fast and detect abuse.
• Device favourites— pets you save are stored in your browser's local storage, not on our servers.

How we use it

To operate the marketplace, connect buyers with sellers, prevent fraud and scams, meet our obligations under animal welfare regulations (for example verifying breeder licences), and improve the product. Our lawful bases under UK GDPR are contract, legitimate interests and legal obligation.

Sharing

We share data only with service providers needed to run the site (hosting, email delivery, authentication), and with authorities where the law requires it — for example local-authority licensing teams investigating illegal selling.

Cookies

We use essential cookies for sign-in sessions and preferences (such as dark mode). We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, object to processing, and request portability. Email hello@pethome.co.ukand we'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Retention

Expired adverts and closed accounts are deleted or anonymised after a reasonable period unless we must keep records for fraud prevention or legal reasons.
